How choosing the right paint color can make your tiny house feel much bigger
Tiny Houses seem to be the fad that doesn’t appear to be going away. Many people around the world opt for the minimalist lifestyle. That lifestyle has extended into the home building process. Whether you’re reading this curled up in your tiny house, or you’re considering building a tiny house, you should know that choosing the right paint can have a huge impact on how big your tiny house feels.

How does paint change my perception of how big a room is?

Granted, paint won’t add any actual square feet to your house, but the right paint can really make your tiny house feel not so tiny. When considering how to make your tiny living space look larger, the lighter the better. White or other light colors are more reflective and play better with natural light to really make the space look open.
A darker color may catch your eye when choosing a paint, but j the darker the paint, the less natural light affects your living space. Dark colors absorb all of that natural light instead of reflecting it.

Don’t just pick plain old white

After reading the first few paragraphs you may be saying to yourself, “I’m heading out to the store right now and buying the whitest paint I can find.” Don’t do that. If anything, go with an off-white. But there are plenty of great light colors that will also do the trick. You don’t have to settle for walls that look like sheets of computer paper.

Other things to consider when choosing your paint color

If you’re trying to decide on a wall color after you’ve already built the house, you don’t have as much freedom. Here are some things to consider when choosing a paint color:
  • What floor colors do I have?
  • How much natural light shines through my windows?
  • What’s the overall theme of my home?
  • How well will my paint retain moisture?
Ask yourself these questions before choosing a paint, because choosing the wrong paint just to make a space look bigger can and will ruin the overall look..
