Fourth of July is just around the corner! If you haven’t decorated your house yet for the big event, then now is the time to get started. Rustic, patriotic decorations made by hand look great in and around the house at this festive, joyful time of year. At Ace Paint and Unfinished Furniture, we’ve done the research and compiled a list of our favorite patriotic DIY decorations that you can make at home.
Patriotic Flower Pot
Patriotic flower pots look attractive and are easy to make. Use
red, white and blue paint
to decorate a clay flower pot with stars and stripes, then plant red geraniums or white daisies in your festive new pot. To decorate your property, put the flower pot on your front porch or stoop for everyone to see.
Homemade Garland
Make a
homemade garland
from red, white and blue canvas or burlap strips. To make your garland, tear or cut strips of colored burlap, then tie the strips to a ribbon, leaving the ends of the burlap loose. Use the garland to decorate your fireplace or dining room table.
Red, White and Blue Bandana Tablecloth
This bandana tablecloth project is all American and lots of fun! Collect
red, white and blue
bandanas of the same size, then sew them together in a tablecloth of the right dimensions for your table. This tablecloth can be used to decorate your dining room table or the picnic table in your backyard.
Homemade Flag T-Shirt
Wear your patriotism on your sleeve with this homemade flag t-shirt. To complete this project, use star-shaped and stripe-shaped cutouts to
decorate a t-shirt with red and blue fabric paint. This is a good project to do with kids. They’ll be so excited to wear their creations when the paint has finished drying!
Painted Mason Jars
Patriotic mason jars are great for decorating the mantel! To get started, paint some old mason jars with red, white and blue chalk paint. You can decorate the mason jars with a colorful pattern or leave them painted in solid colors, then use the mason jars to hold flowers, unlit sparklers or other decorative elements.
Patriotic Clothespin Wreath
Make a
patriotic clothespin wreath
to hang on your front door or somewhere in your home. Use red, white and blue spray paint to paint clothes pins. Next, attach the clothes pins to a round wreath wire, lining the entire wire so it’s completely hidden by the clothes pins.
Clump the blue pins together on the left hand side of the wreath, then alternate the red and white clothes pins to form stripes around the rest of the wreath. This simulates the appearance of the American flag. For the finishing touch, attach white star stickers to the blue section of the wreath.
