Chalkboard paint is a versatile, fun medium that you can use in a million ways to make surfaces in your home more attractive and functional. In this post, we'll talk about some of the various uses of chalkboard paint around the house.

Labels on Wine Glasses

Have you ever set down your wine glass and then confused it with someone else's? Chalkboard paint labels can fix that problem. Simply fill a small paint can with black chalkboard paint, then dip the base of your wine glass into the paint. Next, set the wine glass onto a piece of parchment paper. Leave the glass in place for about 20 minutes, then move the glass to prevent little drips of paint from sticking to the glass. The base of the wine glass will be a classy black matte color that you can write names on during parties!

Make a Chalkboard Room

Paint the walls of your child's room or play room with chalkboard paint. Chalkboard paint comes in all different colors, not just black, so you can paint the walls in one color, or in a multitude of colors. Either way, when the project is finished, your child will have the ability to draw creative chalk pictures all over the walls.

Labels for Plants

Paint thick popsicle sticks with black chalkboard paint and allow the chalkboard paint to dry. Use these sticks to label your house plants. This project doesn't work outdoors, where the chalk would be washed away by rain, so don't forget to keep the sticks inside.

Kitchen Menu Board

Kitchen menu boards are cute and functional at the same time! Paint a two foot wide and three foot high chalkboard on your kitchen wall in the area around the table and write, "Today's Specials" at the top. Write a new menu every morning. Your kids will never have to ask you what's for dinner ever again!

Chalk Table

It's all well and good to have a chalkboard room, but even more creative is a chalkboard table. Paint an old table with chalkboard paint and put it in an area where your kids like to play. Not only will they be able to write on their table top, but they can even draw an erasable checkerboard or game board on the table.

Message Board for Foyer

Want to tell your kids or spouse that you ran to the store and you'll be home soon? Painting a message board in your home's foyer allows you to pass functional messages along to other members of your household. Simply paint a rectangle in a visible part of your foyer, and leave a container of chalk on a table nearby.

Storage Container Labels

Paint your baskets or storage containers with chalkboard paint to create a useful surface to write erasable labels.

Backdrop Board

Paint a "backdrop board" either on a wall or on a board, then pose your children in front of it for pictures that mark special occasions. Write stats like "First day of Kindergarten," or "2nd Birthday" on your backdrop board to show what special thing was happening on that day.

Calendar

Do you tire of buying a new calendar every year? Use chalkboard paint to paint a permanent calendar on the walls of your home, then use a silver or white permanent marker to draw the boxes where you want them to be.
