Tips for Painting your Aluminum Siding

Aluminum siding can come in many different colors. Maybe when you made the decision to go with aluminum siding you had a different color scheme in mind. That color scheme isn’t working for you anymore? No sweat. Much like other exteriors we covered previously, you can also paint your aluminum siding.
It’s All About Prep
The one thing that is crucial to any exterior painting success is the prep work. Power washing your home’s exterior is absolutely vital – especially when working with aluminum. The biggest threat to an aluminum paint job is any troubled areas, such as flaking. These need to be addressed before you can prime.
Prime!
Choosing the right primer is the next big step in painting your aluminum siding. Unlike other exterior material, you have to be really careful about what type of primer you’re going with. It can be tempting to just head into your local store and grab a cheap primer without even thinking twice about what’s in it. After all, it’s just primer. What’s the big deal?
You must pick an oil-based primer for metal surfaces. If you don’t go with an oil-based primer then your paint job just won’t last. Latex primer produces an elastic gas bubble underneath, which will destroy all of your hard work. Make sure you’re using an oil-based primer!
