Summer is a busy time. Between vacations, your kids being out of school, and work being stressful because everyone seems to be on vacation, there isn’t much time for home improvement projects – unless, of course, it’s planned. Painting is a great project to tackle during a summer weekend.
Start with the biggest project first
Perhaps you’ve been putting off painting the kitchen for years. Sure, you’ve been talking about redoing the entire kitchen with new cabinets and maybe a neat backsplash but you’re unsure of how it will all work with your current color scheme? Painting, especially when you are doing it yourself, is a cost effective way to update any room. And it’s easy to do.
Start with your biggest pain point, solve that and move on to your next project. By tackling your home renovations room by room, you pick up some small victories along the way that make it easier to keep going.
Exterior renovations
There’s really no better time to paint the exterior of your house than in the summer. It’s much easier to do when the weather is nice, and it’s also a great way to get outside and spend some time making your house beautiful along the way. When considering an exterior upgrade, consider more neutral colors if you’re trying to play it safe.
Painting the exterior also forces you to clean the exterior. Before painting, it’s imperative you give your house a good power washing. You’ll get years of dirt, grime and other buildup off of your house to prep it for painting.
Finally, head to your deck and finish the job
If you’ve been following our blog, you’ve probably seen numerous posts about everything we’ve talked about so far. However, other than the actual color of your house, the deck is the most important space for many. It’s where you spend countless hours basking in the sun or gazing at the stars. The nicer your space, the more time you will spend out there.
Whether you are building a new deck, or just trying to give your current space the long overdue TLC it deserves, staining your deck can be a great way to upgrade your space and get it back to looking brand new.
