5 Things You Need To Remember For Arranging Furniture

Winter has come to an end and spring is here! If you’re like many homeowners, you may be turning your attention to spring cleaning. While some homeowners focus their spring cleaning efforts on dusting and organizing, others may take the opportunity to give their homes a fresh new look, through creative decorating and furniture arrangement. These tips will help you arrange your furniture in ways that are appealing, functional and beautiful.
Create Focus
Creating a focal point in the room gives you something to look at and gives the room a sense of purpose. The focal point can be any part of the room that is beautiful or interesting, such as the fireplace, the coffee table or the television. The focal point may be an aesthetically interesting flower arrangement or a beautiful painting on the wall. Whatever focal point you choose, reinforce that focal point by pointing all the furniture at that particular spot. Point the sofas and chairs in the room at that one point.
Utilize Symmetry
Symmetry is closely affiliated with tradition and order. Symmetry is logical, sensible and formal. In a traditional living room set up, symmetry establishes balance and can even give a zen-like feeling to a space. Symmetrical furniture arrangements are also good for entertaining because of the way chairs and sofas end up facing one another.
Cluster Furniture for Easier Conversation
Placing all your furniture around the outer walls of a room can make conversation awkward and difficult. Depending on how big the room is, you could end up shouting just to make yourself heard. Clustering your sofas and arm chairs in the center of the room can make it easier to have a conversation with guests and family members.

Work with the Flow of Traffic
Think about how people normally walk in and out of each room of your house, and keep furniture out of the flow of traffic. Forcing your guests and family members to walk around a sofa or a coffee table just to cross the living room can lead to banged shins. In addition, placing furniture in the center of the room’s flow of traffic can make the room feel more cluttered and less spacious.
Divide the Room Into Zones
In the case of a room that serves multiple functions, use the furniture in the room to divide the space into zones. This is especially smart in homes where the room is awkwardly proportioned, or in homes with small rooms where it’s necessary to assign multiple purposes for a single space.
