What can you do with a single can of paint? Quite a lot! In this post we’ll discuss 10 fun projects that require only about a gallon of paint (or less) to complete.
Patterns on the Walls
Paint patterns on your walls to give a boring room flair. To paint stripes on your walls, mask of the edges of the stripes with painter’s tape, then use a paint brush or paint roller to apply the paint. Be careful to stay within the lines when applying the paint, because the paint is likely to bleed beneath the masking tape.
Paint a Rug
Old rugs have a way of becoming stained and faded. Painting your rug, whether outdoor or indoor, can make the colors bright and bold once again. If you’re feeling ambitious, try masking off a pattern on the rug, then apply the paint only within the lines of the pattern. Use a stencil brush to apply the paint.
Give Flair to Decorative Trim
Make the decorative trim around cabinets and doors pop with shiny applications of color. Use a 1 inch (or smaller) angled paint brush to help you stay within the lines.
Add a Faux Stair Runner
Stair runners give your staircase extra definition and can be used to accent the room. Painting a faux stair runner onto the stairs takes time and patience, but when the project is finished, the finished product looks amazing. For longest-lasting results, use porch paint or hardwood floor paint, then apply a coat of varnish to seal in the paint and reduce wear and tear.
Repaint a Door
Scratches and scuff marks on a door can make a room look shabby. Covering your door with a fresh coat of paint can erase the lines of wear and tear and can transform the room.
Refinish Furniture
Chalk paint is known for being easy to apply to furniture, but even if your paint is wall paint instead of chalk paint, you can still refinish your old wooden dresser, table or chairs. When applying wall paint to previously finished furniture, don’t forget to sand the surface slightly to give the paint a surface that it can grip.
Make an Accent Wall
Pick one wall of your room and paint it a different color from the other walls. Accent walls don’t have to be bright or bold, but simply different from the other walls in the room. This provides a focal point and can be used to tie together a color scheme.
Update Patio Furniture
Paint your patio furniture to give your patio or deck a bright, colorful flair. Match the patio furniture to your flowers, your house or your deck to tie together the landscape around your home.
Upgrade the Fireplace
Painting the fireplace in your home can make your home’s interior more attractive. For a fireplace that’s never been painted before, more than one can of paint may be necessary, because unpainted brick can soak up a lot of paint. Applying primer first will help.
Breathe Life Into an Old Mirror
Paint the frame of an old mirror to make the frame match the rest of the room. If the frame was previously varnished or painted, sand the surface of the frame slightly to help the paint stick.
